Online pokies in South Australia are governed by the same national rules as every other state, but SA players have one detail nobody else in the southern states deals with: a time zone that sits half an hour off the east coast. That small offset is enough to catch people out when a promotion is meant to start "on Monday".
This page covers the legal position, the SA pokies scene, the timing quirk and why Fair Go Casino is a good fit for South Australians aged 18 and over. If you want the wider context, our online pokies Australia hub covers the whole country.

Is online pokies play legal in South Australia?
South Australia licenses its pubs, clubs and casino, but it has no power to license an online pokies site. That sits with the Commonwealth under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001, which forbids operators from offering online casino games to people in Australia. The Act does not turn the player into an offender, so an Adelaide resident spinning a pokie on an offshore site is not breaking that law.
The honest caveats:
- Fair Go, like every real money pokies site Australians use, is offshore and operates under a Curaçao licence.
- ACMA can direct internet providers to block offshore casino domains.
- SA's gambling regulator has no say over offshore operators, so you have no local avenue for complaints.
Our guide is online gambling legal in Australia goes through it step by step.
Pokies in South Australia
South Australians have had poker machines in hotels and clubs for decades, and you will find gaming rooms in pubs from Glenelg to the Barossa and out to regional centres like Mount Gambier and Whyalla. The Adelaide Casino on North Terrace, next to the railway station, is the state's casino.
Pokies have also been a recurring topic in SA politics, with debate over machine numbers and venue rules. Whatever you think of that debate, the protections built into local venues do not follow you online, so the controls you set for yourself are the ones that count.
The half-hour problem: Adelaide time vs casino time
Adelaide runs on ACST, half an hour behind Sydney and Melbourne, and moves to ACDT for daylight saving. Fair Go's promotions run on casino time, which may not match your clock to the hour, let alone the half-hour.
| Promo | Code | Casino-time window |
|---|---|---|
| Koala Monday | KOALAMO | All day Monday; bonus tier depends on deposit size |
| Fun Monday | FUNMON | 25 free spins Monday for deposits made Saturday to Monday |
| Fair Draw | Automatic | Weekly, Friday to Thursday; random $50 to $500 bonuses |
| VIP Thursday | Inbox | VIP bonuses sent every Thursday |
The practical tip: do not leave a Monday code until 11.45pm Adelaide time. Claim earlier in the day or check the casino clock with live chat. Every current code is on our Fair Go bonus codes page.
Why Fair Go is a good fit for South Australians
Fair Go launched in 2017 with Australians as its target market, and SA players get the same advantages as everyone else:
- Everything in AUD, from the $20 minimum card deposit to your withdrawal limits.
- Browser-based mobile play on iOS and Android. There is no native app, so you simply log in through your phone's browser.
- 24/7 live chat on every day of the year, which suits a time zone that is out of step with the east.
- Plenty of ways to deposit: Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Neosurf, CashtoCode, eZeeWallet, JET Bank Transfer and crypto including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and Tether.
- 280+ pokies from SpinLogic Gaming (formerly RealTime Gaming), with new releases two to three times a month.
What it does not have: live dealer tables, a sportsbook, PayID or POLi. For the full rundown, read our Fair Go Casino review.

Frequently asked questions
Individuals are not committing an offence by playing. The Interactive Gambling Act bans operators from offering online casino games to Australians, not players from using them. Fair Go operates offshore under a Curaçao licence, so there is no Australian regulator to complain to if a dispute arises.
Fair Go's Monday promotions and the Friday to Thursday Fair Draw run on casino time. Adelaide sits half an hour off the eastern states, so the start and end of a promo window may land at an odd time on your clock. Claim early or check the casino time with live chat.
Yes, using JET Bank Transfer, which has a $20 minimum. Fair Go does not list PayID or POLi as deposit methods. You can also use Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay or Google Pay from $20, or Neosurf and eZeeWallet from $10.
Aztec's Millions has a progressive jackpot you can win at any bet level, Plentiful Treasure has eight progressive jackpots, and Megasaur is another progressive favourite. Kev's Bush Bonanza adds a Super Grand Jackpot. Remember jackpots are rare by design, so play them for fun.
No. BetStop covers licensed Australian wagering providers only, not offshore online casinos like Fair Go. If you want to exclude yourself from online pokies, speak to Gambling Help Online on 1800 858 858 about blocking software and other practical steps.
